The weekend started with our usual morning. Up early, on the vehicle before dawn and cameras at the ready, knowing that the early mornings are more likely for cat encounters.Sure enough, we were hardly out of the camp when we saw two sets of fresh leopard prints walking in a straight line and indicating a determined goal. We followed the tracks until we arrived at the goal - a fresh impala kill. However, hyenas had stolen the kill from the leopards (who had disappeared by the time we arrived). We got many great photos of the hyenas enjoying their stolen breakfast!We continued our search for the leopards and whilst searching came across the two large male lions from yesterday. Leaving the camp this morning, the ODP Safari group headed straight for the southern areas of the Reserve where the cheetah family with tiny cubs was sighted yesterday. On the way, they shared some of their images from yesterday: The first exciting encounter upon reaching the south was with a different cheetah family, a mother and her two eighteen month old cubs. The family was very active and it soon became clear that they were hunting. The ODP Safari group followed the family, capturing wonderful images. The family soon spotted and caught up with a herd of impala, the ODP group close behind ... Action! The mother approached closer and closer to the impala, followed by her cubs. The photographers held their breath, cameras trained on the action. Through the long grass she walked, quietly, intense, ever closer, concentrating, focussed ... And suddenly, she leapt and the chase began....
(click on image to view bigger) The East African landscape is truly beautiful. Breath taking scenes of animals mixed with Sheppard trees and sunsets to die for greeted us almost daily. Not only did the Mara deliver the wildlife spectacle we all hoped for but it also dazzled us with its natural splendor and astounding natural beauty..! Our ODP 2012 safaris just cannot come soon enough..! ...
